I’m not normally a big shopper but after two months of covid closures, I was ready to buy. I took to the streets to shop on the first day that a few storefront stores were able to open –  Gravenhurst did not disappoint. Of course, I practised physical distancing and other safety measures.

My first stop was Tara’s, the beautiful new store had so much to see and lots of room to keep your physical distance while shopping. The colourful  Monet and van Gogh-themed rain capes originally caught my eye but it was a pair of Bob’s shoes that I purchased. They are the cutest slip-on flats with a fabric of brightly coloured cats. I actually purchased a pair of dog Bob’s in Florida last year and they were so comfy – I was thrilled to find a pair here. And with cats, I’m a cat person, I could not resist. They are made by Sketchers and when you purchase BOBS, Sketchers will make a donation to help save the lives of dogs and cats.

Then I visited Canadian Tire. I’d been researching new barbecue grilling baskets online and the stainless steel one had great reviews. The large newly renovated store (the entire facility is almost 100, 000 square feet) has wide aisles and safety precautions in place including markings for a long cashier waiting area that runs through the centre of the store.  Every employee has a headset so they can quickly get help if they need to remind customers to keep their 6 metres. The line looked long, but that was just the spacing. I was out of there in just a few minutes.

Next, I went to Giant Tiger for a few groceries including my favourite organic multicolour mini carrots. But this time I was focussed on more than their great veggies and meat, I was shopping for fun stuff. There I found an adorable little Paw Patrol ball cap that will be perfect for my grandson this summer. I know he will love that.

I know many people have been buying online during this pandemic but I did not. I waited to shop at those local businesses that support our Car show, Gala and other community events. This is just a friendly reminder to shop local, there are so many great items available here in Gravenhurst.

I’ve included a pic of my great purchases. You know where to find these items! Please tell us about some of your awesome Gravenhurst purchases too.
